Core protocols of the telecom industry such as VOIP and SIP are the most at risk of Cyber-attack, with no let-up in the rise in numbers of cybercriminals and increase ease of access to hacking tools. Telecom industry hence cannot do away with bringing more functions in the house to a small team of the professional workforce which can respond to Cyberthreats on the go.

Cyber-attacks in the telecom industry may cause loss of confidential data which now is at highest risk as per analysts. With awareness and demand for privacy growing today, telecom firms cannot afford to ignore increasing incidents.

With no limit to the requirement of speed and storage in telecom services, cybersecurity has become the most major worry of service providers. As telecom companies mutate into cloud service providers and coming up with new and advanced mobile services that are all based on web connectivity, the looming Cyber threat to the telecom industry will only grow.

While there is an improvement in awareness, the numbers still look dull. Only half of the telecom firms, according to a PWC survey, have enforced a cybersecurity policy for cloud computing. Replying to this large open ground for hackers is the new trend of corporate honchos buying cloud services for their companies with no support from technical staff or telecom cybersecurity agencies.

Over 60% of telecom firms today use one or another form of cloud computing, with the emerging Internet of Things devices depends on cloud services.

With 5G in the fray, the telecom companies will have to up their ante about providing data packages. This, coupled with IoT data traffic, will make server troubles more common, making it easier for hackers to have their way with network crashes and large-scale frauds.

In this context, it makes perfect sense for the telecom industry to amp up their cybersecurity efforts, with employment of expert help to be the smartest choice. Existing tech support infrastructure in telecom service providers may not tackle the threat of Cyber adversaries since these hackers are always evolving their strategies to take advantage of new loopholes in security infrastructure. This makes the employment of cybersecurity experts, whose full-time job is to analyze and respond to threats, the safest bet.
